Restless Legs Syndrome
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological condition that causes an uncontrollable urge to move the legs. The following are the signs and symptoms associated with restless legs syndrome:
Uncomfortable sensations: People with RLS often describe a crawling, creeping, tingling, or burning sensation in their legs that can be uncomfortable or painful.
Urge to move: The uncomfortable sensations in the legs can create a strong urge to move the legs, which can provide temporary relief.
Worsening symptoms at night: RLS symptoms tend to worsen in the evening or at night and can interfere with sleep, leading to fatigue and daytime drowsiness.
Movement provides relief: Moving the legs, walking, stretching, or massaging the affected areas can temporarily relieve symptoms.
Periodic limb movements: Some people with RLS also experience periodic limb movements (PLMs), which are involuntary muscle contractions that occur every 20-40 seconds during sleep.
Chiropractic Care & RLS
Neurology-based chiropractic adjustment and assessment: can help alleviate the symptoms of RLS. The sciatic nerves run from the L4 nerve roots down to the S3 nerve roots. The state-of-the-art technology we utilize can help us determine if you have localized tension or interference in the signals of some or all of these nerve roots. When we take the pressure off of the nerve roots the nerves can then get proper signals to the lower extremities, likely relieving you from your RLS symptoms.
